Default loading and how to withdraw
Google Analytics 4 (www.googletagmanager.com and www.google-analytics.com), Microsoft Clarity (www.clarity.ms, scripts.clarity.ms and collection subdomains of clarity.ms) and Adsterra (bicea.org plus the advertising creative hosts it selects) load by default on the first page view of this site. You do not have to press Keep on for them to run: the banner is notice and withdrawal, not a gate. Pressing Reject stops those scripts, records your rejection for 180 days, and they stay off on later visits in this browser. The footer link Cookie settings reopens the banner so you can change your mind. Global Privacy Control is treated as a rejection.
Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID G-6PQWWRR68D)
GA4 uses the cookies _ga and _ga_6PQWWRR68D, both kept for up to 2 years, to count page views and distinguish repeat visits. It receives the page URL, referrer, a coarse location derived from the request, device and browser details, and interaction events. We use it only in aggregate; we do not build profiles or join it to your email. Purpose: measure how the guide is used. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in aggregate statistics, with analytics storage set to granted by default and stopped by Reject. Google’s policy is at policies.google.com/privacy.
Microsoft Clarity (project z8rh4hhkhv)
Clarity uses pseudonymous identifiers to produce heatmaps and session replays so we can see which parts of a page are used. It sets the cookies _clck and _clsk plus the identifiers CLID and MUID. Clarity applies its configured masking rules to recordings; recordings and heatmaps follow Clarity’s retention settings and documentation. Purpose: usability research. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in improving the guide, stopped by Reject through Clarity’s consent API. Microsoft’s policy is at privacy.microsoft.com/privacystatement; its cookie list is at learn.microsoft.com/clarity-cookies.
Adsterra (publisher 3403020, website 6176987)
Two page-friendly units load: Native Banner unit 32103124 and Social Bar unit 32103125. Both scripts come from bicea.org; adult ads are switched off at the website level. Adsterra and the advertisers whose creatives it serves may set cookies and similar identifiers on bicea.org and on the creative’s own domain to cap frequency, measure a view and prevent fraud. The exact cookie names are chosen by Adsterra and can change, so we do not pretend to list a fixed set; its policy is at adsterra.com/privacy-policy. Purpose: display advertising that pays for the guide. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in funding the site, with the default-on setting as an implementation choice rather than an affirmative consent action; Reject withdraws collection from this site. The Social Bar is a small fixed strip; if you close it, that choice is stored locally for 180 days. Choosing Keep on again resets this dismissal.
YouTube, only after you press play
The reveal trailer is a still image hosted here. Pressing play replaces it with an embedded YouTube player from www.youtube-nocookie.com. Google may then set cookies or similar storage to deliver the video. Purpose: play that one trailer. Their retention and legal basis are Google’s. You can read Google’s policy at policies.google.com/privacy. Until you press play, the video player makes no requests; advertising or analytics may separately contact Google services.
The keys we set ourselves
pp_consent in local storage holds your choice (granted, accepted or rejected) and an expiry; we keep it for 180 days. pp_socialbar_closed holds the time you closed the Adsterra Social Bar and an expiry; we keep it for 180 days. Both are first-party preferences and can be deleted in your browser. Reject writes a rejection record; it does not erase the preference key. Legal basis for the keys: your choice, and a legitimate interest in not asking on every page view during those 180 days.
Personalised advertising
You can opt out of Google’s ad personalisation at adssettings.google.com, and of many other networks at optout.aboutads.info or youronlinechoices.eu. Reject on this site stops Adsterra and GA4 from this site; it does not remove cookies that other sites have already set.
Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track
If the browser sends Global Privacy Control, the site records a rejection and keeps analytics and advertising storage denied. Do Not Track is not a signal this page can rely on; GPC is the one we honor. We do not sell or share personal information as those laws use the terms.
Email you send to [email protected] is stored so we can answer it. Purpose: correspondence. Retention: as long as the thread is useful, then deleted. Legal basis: steps you asked us to take.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of mail we hold, a correction, or deletion, and you can object to correspondence being kept. Email the contact address. You can also clear site data in the browser, which deletes pp_consent and pp_socialbar_closed. You may lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority where you live. Because GA4, Clarity and Adsterra are third parties, requests about their own records go to them as well; we will help identify the relevant controller.
Changes
Material changes replace the date at the top of this page. The footer link is the current copy. Older paths /privacy-policy/, /cookie-policy/, and /cookies/ redirect here.
Questions
Do analytics and ads wait for me to press Keep on?
No. Google Analytics 4, Clarity and Adsterra load on the first page view. The banner is notice and withdrawal; press Reject and they stop for 180 days.
How do I withdraw?
Use Cookie settings in the footer and choose Reject, or delete the pp_consent and pp_socialbar_closed keys in your browser.
Does the Social Bar come back after I close it?
Closing it stores pp_socialbar_closed for 180 days. It stays off until that preference expires, you clear it, or you choose Keep on again in Cookie settings.
