Potato Please hard mode
Hard mode is a pay cut plus a stricter peel, not a separate campaign. There is no “hard ending” in the achievement list or in the ending write-up.
| Rule | What is claimed | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Pay | Each potato pays 50% less | 1 source · community guide |
| Tolerance | Peel mistakes are not forgiven | 1 source · community guide |
| Name after 1.0.1 | Strict peeling replaces No Mercy | Steam news |
| Quota to open the train | 60,000 / 60,000 | 1 source · community guide |
| Achievements | None require Hard | Guide plus the achievement list |
Why the quota stays marked as one source
Both the main guide and the endings page on that site write 60,000. They share an author and an update date, so I count them once. Steam’s achievement “The Quota” says “Peel every last potato” and does not print 60,000. Until a second independent page prints the number, it does not get upgraded to a studio figure.
What Hard does not change
The three train lines stay the same destinations. Strict peeling changes how much flesh you may waste on the way there, and the pay cut slows every purchase on the automation ladder. Outdoor cold, the puppy, and Pavel’s letters are described on the story page and are not Hard-only events. If you only want the ending achievements, the guide’s position is that Normal is enough.
Questions
Is Hard mode still called No Mercy?
Not after 1.0.1. The hotfix says Hard now uses Strict peeling. No Mercy is the old name.
Do I need Hard mode for an achievement?
No achievement text requires a difficulty. The community guide says the same thing in plainer words: all 20 can be done without Hard.
