Potato Please beginner guide
Status for this page: 1 source · community guide, cross-checked only where hotfix 1.0.1 talks about the same objects (saves, the puppy, getting stuck). There is no official tutorial text.
The warm-up, in order
- Read the opening order and open a potato sack.
- Carry one potato to the bench and put it in the raw hopper.
- Hold the peel button and turn the potato. Peeling and handing-in are two actions.
- Carry the peeled potato to the chute and drop it. That is the delivery.
- At the supply terminal, take the Rusty Knife and peel until the “10 potatoes” goal clears.
- Spend the first skill point in the journal. The guide names Stamina, Auto Rotate, and Tremor Treatment.
- Finish the warm-up shift, buy Carry Capacity, and open the door into the big room.
Three early mistakes
- Peeling too deep throws away flesh. That waste is the thing Hard mode later refuses to forgive.
- Leaving finished potatoes on the bench does not advance the quota.
- Buying every upgrade at once stalls the shift. The guide’s advice is to open the next room before you collect gadgets.
Interruptions
The same guide describes a grenade in the pile (do not bag it; throw it clear), a coughing fit solved with Medication, and outdoor cold solved with a Winter Coat. Prices for the coat and the medicine were not printed, so they are blank on the automation table. Hotfix 1.0.1 adds a tremor slider and a puppy mute; those are official notes, separate from this shift order.
Next, the machines: automation and upgrades. Version context is 1.0.2 on 2026-11-05.
Questions
Does peeling count as delivery?
No. The guide says you peel, then carry the potato to the chute. A potato sitting on the bench is not delivered.
What is the first purchase?
The same guide says finish the warm-up, then buy carry capacity so you can open the door into the large workshop.
